The Artisan & Wellness Experience:
Deep in the Heart of a Hidden Alentejo

balao-ar-quente.jpg

The Alentejo region of Portugal makes up almost a third of the country, but only a small percentage of it gets promoted to outsiders. In this experience, you’ll become intimate with the people of Alto Alentejo (the northern-most part of the region), who treasure their territory and guard its traditions.

Roll up your sleeves and work hand-in-hand with a local artisan to make soaps, fragrances and more based on the natural resources found in her charming village of Cabeço de Vide, where thermal waters have been used since Roman times, nearly 4,000 years ago. The excellency of the water plays a major role in this artisan’s products, but so do the textures, hues and aromas found in the fields that surround her. You’ll work with fig, orange, wild lavender and other gems sourced from the area. You’ll also have an opportunity to visit the thermal baths, which are high in sulfur and recommended to treat chronic skin conditions, respiratory problems and osteo-articular diseases.

The natural and tranquil setting of the thermal baths are an ideal location for a pic-nic brimming with local honey, biscuits, cheese, wine and other local goodies. The experience includes a night of gazing at the brightest of star speckled skies. The next morning, start the day with breakfast in a hot air balloon, followed by take off with a certified instructor that will show you Alto Alentejo from the clouds.
